Ukiyoe, Ukiyoe, Utagawa Kuniyoshi-Morotori yasuri zukuri

Ukiyoe Edo fan paintings (nishikie, yamato-type) were produced by the publisher Ibasen as multicolor printed fan paintings (uchiwa-e) by master printmakers Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi, who were descendants of the Utagawa school. Ibasen printed and produced this work based on this only existing woodblock print.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi's "Morotori Yasuri Zukushi" was made into an Edo-style uchiwa-fan.

Various birds are making and selling various gourmet foods of Edo. This is a unique work by Kuniyoshi.

The upper right is a "boned loach" of a heron. The lower right is "Morning Glory Seller" by Ruri Bird.In the center, a chicken is baking an egg cracker.In the upper left, two metropolitan birds are making and selling "sakura mochi," a specialty of the Sumida River.In the lower left, a hoto-togisu is carrying "Hatsukatsuo" (first bonito).

Utagawa Kuniyoshi was an ukiyoe artist active in the late Edo period (1603-1868) who worked in a variety of genres, including landscapes, portraits of actors, and paintings of beautiful women.

Many of his works anthropomorphize and uniquely depict various animals and fish, giving the viewer a sense of Kuniyoshi's individuality.
